This Workshop is for those who wish to become a meditation instructor to help others. It is intended for people who have practiced meditation for a while.

The objective of this Workshop is to train those who are interested in volunteering in the Olmo Ling Compassionate Outreach program, including the Olmo Ling Prison Project and the Olmo Ling Death and Dying project. It is also generally for all who would like to be able to offer meditation instructions to help others. At the same time, this Retreat is an opportunity to deepen your own meditation practice by reflecting deeply on the Bon instructions for Calm Abiding Meditation and its relationship with Insight Meditation.

The teachings will focus on Calm Abiding Meditation according to the Tibetan Bon tradition. Calm Abiding Meditation provides a foundation for all other types of meditation. Tempa Lama will give detailed instructions on Calm Abiding Meditation and how we can use it to stabilize our mind and feelings.

We will learn:
  • What Calm Abiding Meditation is and who can and cannot practice it
  • The relationship of Calm Abiding and Insight Meditation (self-awareness) and how to abide in the unified essence of calmness and self-awareness
  • Obstacles and obscuration of meditation practice
  • Necessary conditions for meditation practice
  • How to choose and rely on an object of meditation
  • How to face internal distractions of conditioning and external distractions of the senses
  • How to work with visions, feelings, and states of meditative absorption
  • The process of the nine successive stages of mental abiding
  • What are the qualities that enable us to help others as meditation instructor.
