Thank You so Much for Your Support for the Victims of the Floods in Nepal!

Tempa Lama would like to express his profound gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Olmo Ling community and his friends to assist the victims of the devastating flash floods that struck his home country Nepal on August 26, 2026.

The floods have affected the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan north of Kathmandu. Entire villages, roads and bridges have been swept away. Hydropower facilities, water systems, and telecommunications have been affected and remain disrupted in some areas. It is believed that tens of thousands have been displaced (see also here).

Thanks to your generous support, we have raised $18,894 and counting! We have sent your generous donations to Nepal for the first round of relief efforts.

Our volunteer team is overseen by Mr. Chhewang Lama, CEO of Responsible Treks, who previously oversaw the Olmo Ling Earthquake Relief Project in 2015.

Our team initially focused on identifying the most urgent needs following a needs-based and locally coordinated approach. The goal is to assess the specific needs of each location in coordination with local representatives, communities, and holding-center coordinators rather than distributing the same items everywhere.

An urgent concern are disruptions to healthcare services at community hospitals due to the destruction of transportation routes and public facilities. Our team also found that temporary holding centers for displaced families are facing shortages of electricity, water, sanitation, food, cooking facilities, clothing and other essential supplies, with women, children, and the elderly particularly affected.

Thanks to your generous support, our team has been able to provide the following so far:

Oxygen cylinders, essential medicines, and medical supplies to Rasuwa Community Hospital
Children’s items, underwear, and reusable sanitary pads to families in the school areas of Shree Narayansthan Aadharbhut Vidyalaya and Shree Shivalaya Aadharbhut Vidyalaya
Tents, baby and children’s clothes, underwear, maternity packs and reusable sanitary pads, and other essential items at Shivalaya Holding Center and Nilkantha Holding Center
Electric infrared cooking stoves in Kalika Ward No. 2,
Warm clothes and other essential items at Yellow Gumba in Kathmandu, where displaced families are temporarily housed, and
Gas cylinders, tents, children’s clothes, underwear, and other essential items for displaced families finding shelter at Nubri Monastery.

Your Generosity is Making Olmo Ling’s Work in Nepal Possible

We are profoundly grateful to have been able to help the people of Nepal during several crises that have affected Tempa Lama’s home country of Nepal in recent years. With the generous support of our community and dedicated volunteers we were among the first teams on the ground to bring tents, blankets, water, food, medicine, and soap to the villages hit hardest by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal in April 2015. Supported by our community, the Olmo Ling Humla Covid Relief Project brought urgently needed medical supplies and protective equipment to Tempa Lama’s home region of Humla, Nepal, in June 2021.
